Wilderness Systems Duralite Polyethylene

Lose the weight, not the performance

DuraLite recreational boats are produced using a premium grade metallocene polyethylene normally reserved for demanding whitewater applications. The extremely stiff and tough engineering material allows us to optimize the amount of plastic used, reducing the weight of a kayak by up to 20%.

Only the most technically proficient rotomolders are qualified to practice the DuraLite process. The DuraLite rotomolding process requires careful process control to closely monitor plastic flow inside the mold, making constant adjustments to ensure uniform coverage and thickness of the plastic. Ultrasonic thickness gages confirm the result.

It takes longer to produce a DuraLite boat, but the effort is worth it to those who are looking for the lightest possible rotomolded kayak. Wilderness Systems pioneered this technique to answer the demands for lighter weight kayaks. A DuraLite kayak sacrifices nothing in terms of resilience and performance. However, one must take extra care in storing the boat. Always transport and store the kayak with cradles or straps under the bulkhead and pillar. And do not store the kayak in direct sunlight or near extreme heat (such as a wood stove or electric heater).
